WILBERFORCE, OHIO – Freshman quarterback David Wright recorded season highs in completions (38), attempts (57), yards (455) and touchdowns (4) to power Allen University over Central State University, 46-34, on Saturday afternoon at McPherson Memorial Stadium.
Wright connected with six different receivers and rushed for 65 yards on 19 attempts (3.4 avg.) for one touchdown to help AU (3-2) total 616 yards of offense.
Freshman wide receiver Jamal Jones finished with a season and game high 172 receiving yards with 13 receptions and two touchdowns. Wright connected with Jones in the 4th quarter to cap AU’s scoring and score the win.
Freshman running back Beau Herrington added 12 receptions for 120 yards.
Julius Pearson scored one touchdown and hauled in two receptions for 59 yards. Joshua Vaughn had four receptions for 48 yards and one touchdown.
Dahlil Wilkins collected eight tackles (6 solo) and Kerry Thompson added two sacks. RayShawn Meiser tacked on an interception for the Yellow Jackets.
AU led 40 – 28 at the half before CSU (1-3, 0-2 SIAC) closed the gap, 40-34, after Dalane Brown scored on a 28-yard reception from Tyriq Henderson.
Henderson helped the Marauders gain 459 yards of total offense while completing 25-of-40 pass attempts for 320 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for a score to give the Maurauders their first lead of the game 12-8 in the first quarter with 8:12 remaining.
Brown scored two touchdowns and finished with three receptions for 47 yards.
Demonte Dunlap rushed for a game high 120 yards on 16 rush attempts (7.5 avg.) and scored on 45-yard run to give CSU a 26-22 lead in the first quarter.
Said Sidibe hauled in nine receptions for 107 yards and one touchdown and Derell Williams racked up 103 yards from four catches.
Jamal Holloway led CSU on defense with six tackles, three pass break-ups, two sacks and a forced fumble. Bryan Sarente and Justice Merritt each finished with nine tackles.
EDWARD WATERS 37, MOREHOUSE 13
GAME STATS
ATLANTA, GA – Edward Waters snapped a three-game losing with a 37-13 road victory over Morehouse on Saturday afternoon at Lakewood Stadium.
EWU (2-3) snaps an eight-game losing streak to Morehouse (0-5, 0-1 SIAC) and picks up its first road win in 10 games since defeating Warner, 33-30, in overtime in Lake Wales, Fla.
The Tigers forced five turnovers including two forced fumbles and recoveries with three interceptions to complement four sacks. Ahmaud Jordan returned a fumble for a score to spotlight the defense. The Tigers special teams also had two blocked punts in the contest.
Freshman quarterback Cedquan Smith finished 10-of-16 passing for 181 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Ferante Cowart finished with a game high 77 yards on four catches and a touchdown, while Steavenson Fernand had three catches for 71 yards.
On the ground, Maliek Stephens had 17 carries for 98 yards to lead the way for EWU.
Defensively, Ahmon Jefferson had 5.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks. James Gary had five tackles and two sacks in the contest, while Ahmanuel Thorpe finished with 4.5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Cameron McClain had two interceptions in the contest and Cedric Woodson added an interception to the defensive effort.
The Tigers finished with 439 total yards and the Maroon Tigers gatheres 237 total yards.
MHC (0-5) scored on Armani Maddox’s 15-yard interception return to keep the game close in the first quarter, 7-6. In the third quarter, Earnest Davis scored on an eight-yard run to help narrow the margin in the third quarter, 23-13, before MHC surrendered 14 unanswered points to close the game.
Davis gained 69 yards on 13 attempts (5.3 avg.).
Michael Sims completed 9-of-23 pass attempts for 90 yards with three interceptions. Delan Toliver caught three passes for 29 yards.
Daylon Land recorded 10 tackles (8 solo) and Tyler Hunter finished with eight tackles (5 solo) with one sack. Darie Pittman chipped in an interception.
